I am a 5th grade teacher at Green Hope Elementary School in Cary, NC. My passion for teaching began years ago while a student in the Sarasota Public School System. I received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Education from the University of South Florida, Tampa, Fl., and a Master’s of Ed degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. I received my National Board Certification as a Middle Childhood Generalist and have taught in Florida, Virginia, and North Carolina.
As an educator of more than twenty years, I am often seeking ways to remain current in my teaching practices in order to engage my students in progressive ideas and current best practices. My most recent area of interest includes incorporating cutting edge 21st Century Web 2.0 tools into the classroom. I enjoy engaging my students in hands-on interactive activities that involve SMART board lessons, Glogsters, SAM animations, Book Building activities, and responding to blogs and wikis that allow for collaboration and the integration of language arts and the content areas.

experience has been a life-changing adventure that provided me with a firsthand perspective of the cultures of others, fostering in me a deeper appreciation of "Where We're From." I have grown personally, and as an educator, and have been empowered with a wealth of experiences to bring back to my classroom and colleagues. I am now better equipped to open up the world to my students through writing.

I am from
I am from the suns warmth, and birds singing at the crack of dawn. I am from the apple trees surrounding my yard. I am from the dripping candles that leave a scent of cinnamon spice looming around my kitchen. I am from cookies at Christmas, and laughter and fun, from Uncle Charlie, Aunt Karen, and Dad. I am from the crazy, warmhearted family. From “you look so grownup” and “you look so much like your mom”. I am from St. Michael the Archangel who believes in Jesus. I am from Florida and New York, the aroma of deep dish pizza, fried chicken, and macaroni salad. From the way I spend my money like Grandpa Phil. I am from the precious pull out drawer at the bottom of the couch. |
Where I’m From
I am from the clear stream water which would always rush down towards the rocks and where I see leaves flying through the wind like rocket ships. I am from a cozy wooden hazelnut room with a view of a humongous evergreen forest. I am from the candy cinnamon gingerbread house topped with sugary icing in the Christmas holidays and from the golden-brown turkey in November during Thanksgiving. I am from dressing up in the colorful Korean traditional clothes, serious but joyful, from my bro, parents, and gram and gramps. I am from the laughing mom and my teasing dad From “Use some common sense, and “Get out of my room!” I am from the person that created the heavens and the earth and from the person who died for my sin with every single family member. I am from the middle of the busy cities, my ancestor bringing me all the way from eastern Asia with tall buildings and sky scrapers, the countryside that is in my blood, and lots of people. I am from the warm and tasty miso soup with extra tofu just like how my mom makes it. From the story about the rich, greedy man that never cared about my family peers reminded me the times my brother always told this folk tale. I am from the wind that blows though and above and under me when I am melancholy, radiant, disagreeable, and startled moments being blown right into my heart and soul, staying with me for my eternal life. Nuria Student Bio PoemsValerie Courageous, Strong, Athletic, Humorous Sister of Nicole Lover of Basketball, electronics, and math Who feels extremely thrilled when I get something new, excited when I make a basket, and grateful to spend time with my family Who needs less time of electronics, more time for exercising, and more time hanging out with friends Who gives time for my family, care for animals, and cookies to my grandma Who fears spiders, snakes, and sharp things Who would like to be the star of the team, be a leader and have a puppy Resident of Cary on Peckskill Ct.
