Professional Profile of Therese Cargo
I trained later in life completing a Diploma of Teaching in 1998, Bachelor of Education/Music in 1999 and a Master of Special Education in 2001. I have had 5 years general classroom teaching and four years as a music specialist. Presently I teach a Year 5/6 class and am responsible for the music in the school. I arrange music for and conduct the school orchestra and senior choir and co-ordinate the Out of School Music Classes. I am released one afternoon a week to take the school orchestra.
My strengths are in language/reading, music, dance, drama and I.C.T. I am presently involved in a Writing Contract with the Waikato University. Outside of school I enjoy reading, biking, yoga, tramping and family.
I have 30 children in my class, 14 girls and 16 boys of mixed ability. The ethnic make-up of the class is; Maori 1, South Africian 1, African 2, NZ European/Pakeha 20, Chinese 2, Japanese 1, Other Asian 1 and Sri Lankan 2.
I am married and together Jason and I have five adult children and two grandchildren.
July this year I attended a Writing and Technology course at the University of Surrey, in Guildford England with a group of American Teachers from North Carolina. The first multimodal resource below, Google Maps shows the University grounds and rooms where I studied and stayed while on the course. The three multimodal resources following; firstly, Animoto is a summary of the scribe notes outlining one of the days of study, the second, Glogster highlights one of the experiences that were organised for us so that we could use videos, cameras and text to share about our adventures and finally Writing modes outlines my feelings and experiences about using the different writing genres.
The title text links following the mutlimodal resources are reflections of myself as a writer and examples of my writing; titled poetry, expressive and exposition writing. All these pieces of writing are an out pouring onto the page of my time imaged or real while studying on this course. To complete this weebly page I have also title text linked the Final Project data.
I have found the course hugely challenging and hugely rewarding. I have learned so much about myself as a writer and the infinite possibilities of the uses of technology.
Thank you so very much Ruie, Kevin, Donna and Megan for this opportunity.
Arohanui Therese.
